(Slow your voice right down from the start.)

High in the evening sky floated a little cloud, soft as a pillow. The cloud was very, very sleepy. “Time for bed,” it yawned. “But first, I must say goodnight.”

The cloud drifted over the quiet hills. “Goodnight, hills,” it whispered. The hills yawned, and the grass swayed gently, swish, swish.

The cloud drifted over the tall trees. “Goodnight, trees. Goodnight, little birds.” The birds tucked their heads under their wings, one by one.

(Let your voice go shh, shh, shh.)

The cloud drifted over the sleepy river. “Goodnight, river.” The river hummed a soft, slow song: shh, shh, shh.

The cloud drifted over the little town. “Goodnight, houses.” One by one, the windows turned dark, like eyes closing.

Then the cloud floated over one little window. Inside, a child was tucked up warm in bed. “Goodnight, little one,” the cloud whispered, very softly.

The cloud rose up beside the moon. The moon smiled. “Come and rest,” she said. The cloud pulled a blanket of stars up to its chin.

(Whisper the last two “goodnights”.)

Slowly, slowly, the cloud closed its eyes. The hills were quiet. The trees were quiet. The river, the town, and the whole wide sky were quiet. Goodnight, little cloud. Goodnight, you.
